STRAW - Tyler Perry (A Movie review. Sort of 🤔)

Quick introduction to STRAW.
Straw is a Tragedy film that's intended to showcase the typical lives of Black people. It's a well-thought-out film that's accurate for this time and Season. I can say this movie was tailored at African audience mostly the second class Nigerian Citizens. It showcase the everyday struggles of becoming an adult. Validating the popular saying "Adulthood na scam" Indeed, Adulthood is a SCAM!
Everyone can just relate.
The main character, Tariji P. Henson has been nothing but a life to the movie. The way she portrays the character, I can say I saw every Nigerian mothers in her. No spoiler intended 👉 (Go watch this movie yourself) Save this post and come back later. (Okay, let's continue 😊)
I can say Tariji understands the assignment and she delivers the script perfectly. She played the role of an Hardworking mother who is nursing a 'Special child'. Special in all ways, if you know what I mean.
Unfortunately for her, she faced some obstacles, stopping her from saving the life of her child. 😢. The Directors used the art of Storytelling, but in this case, it was intended to literally get the audience to not just relate to her misery, but to literally weep with her.
A theme that stood out from me apart from; Mothers Love, The Effect of Father's Neglect, Unfavouring Government Policies and more was 'Leadership in women'
Interestingly, we have some couple of women that stood out. This shows how we cannot neglect women in leadership. The movie depicts women instincts to solving problem. And how they should be heard.
I also love how there was the balance in showcasing how we still have supportive Men, who do not have low self esteem. The overall point for STORYTELLING was a solid 8 for me. (You can disagree 😁)
Coming to the technical aspect. I.e from the Cinematography, Lighting, camera angles, shots, mis-en-scene and more, they killed it! In a good way though 😌
The settings took us back to the 90's and how the typical Black American related. For me, I would have suggested they used a futuristic settings, but I get the point there.
Although, there were some point I got tired of the emotional pulling. It was exhausting at some point. But I got it, it was a Tragedy film. At some point, I thought the actor was over acting too. But again, I get the point. 😁 She had to unleash the emotions to tell the story better.
